Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) today announced the appointment of John Buckley as Head of Exchange Operations and Transformation.
In this new role, Mr Buckley will be responsible for all of HKEX’s exchange operations, and will lead the strategic development and transformation of this part of its business. He will also lead efforts on modernising systems and operations, embrace digital tools and enhance HKEX’s capabilities to maximise efficiencies and performance.
Mr Buckley will join HKEX in December 2021, and will report to HKEX President and Chief Operating Officer, Calvin Tai. Mr Buckley will also become a member of the Group’s Management Committee.

During his career, John has worked in New York, London, Tokyo and Hong Kong in a range of well-respected financial organisations, in a variety of roles, and I know that his broad and deep experience will be invaluable to us, as we continue to build and shape our business. ”
Mr Buckley joins HKEX from Citadel, where he has been Chief Operating Officer, Asia for the past three years. Previously, Mr Buckley spent seven years with J.P. Morgan, and held a number of senior positions including as Chief Risk Officer, Asia Pacific; Chief Financial Officer, Asia Pacific; and Interim Senior Country Officer, Singapore.
Mr Buckley has a first class bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Imperial College, University of London. He is a qualified Management Accountant (ACMA).
